What to expect:
Otavalo is about a 90 minute drive north of Quito. We usually drive through Otavalo and straight on to Cuicocha Lagoon.
Here, you can take a short hike on the crater of this beautiful lagoon. Cuicocha is known for its wild flora and ancient rituals. During the week, we recommend that you visit the town of Cotacachi and view their beautiful handcrafted leather wear.
Afterwards, we suggest visit the town of Peguche (near to Otavalo), where you can learn about handmade craft techniques practiced by the Quechua people. From here, it is possible to take a short walk to the spectacular 18 m high Peguche Falls.
Lastly, travel to the Otavalo Saturday market where you can browse Plaza de Ponchos (recommended for tours taken on Saturday). Here you will be able to pick up a few souvenirs at a bargain.
Depending on your schedule, you could stop for lunch in either Cotacachi or Otavalo. Both are well known for their delicious food such as fritada.
